Do You Have A Plaster Headache?
You've finally found that older plaster home you really like. Great rooms, high ceilings,
nice interior details, lots of charm. But. . . those surfaces! What a turnoff!
Holes. Sagging ceilings. Cracks galore! Ouch!! It's not that you don't like plaster.
You know what the good stuff looks like. You love its cool integrity, durability
and acoustic quality. But now you are faced with a disaster. You really want this
house. What to do?

An uncommon situation? Unfortunately, no.
Another common scenario is this one. You have been living in a plastered home for some years now ... and you've finally reached that point where you are saying to yourself, "I don't think I can take this ugly stuff anymore. It's time we do something about it!"
You do have some practical options. That's the good news. Yes, some repair treatments are more expensive than others, some are more convenient, some are more or less messy, and some are downright cheap ... but require more work from you.
And the purpose of this website is ...
To make available to you many free - and some paid - resources, tips and techniques to guide you in your plaster repair and beautification project. My hope is that you will get a clear picture of the whole subject of homeowner guided approaches to making old walls and ceilings beautiful again.
And who am I?
My name is Edwin Brown. I live with my family in a small city on the west coast of the United States. I've been involved in interior wall and ceiling repair projects for 35+ years as a full time occupation. In that time, I believe I have seen and dealt with just about every major - and minor - kind of problem to be found for gypsum plaster in this part of the US. (see MY STORY in the navigation column) Just let me say here - there's hope!
Old walls and ceilings can be fixed and beautified, with striking results. Sharing my experienceWhat I will do is share my experience and my tips with you. You can browse this site, or sign up for my free e-course, HOW TO REPAIR YOUR PLASTER RIGHT. TESTIMONIAL
I have been a remodeling contractor in the Corvallis area since 1978. I have
used Ed Brown's services for patching and matching drywall and plaster since
1984. Ed is an expert in this area and sees his part of the project through
until it is ready to be painted. When he is finished and after it is
painted, you cannot tell where the old walls stop and the new walls begin.
Ed's talent has made my jobs easier, made the projects go more smoothly and
most importantly - satisfies the customer. Another nice thing is I don't
have to worry about cutting an opening in a wall to modify plumbing or
electrical because I know Ed will come in after me and finish the area
beautifully. Don L., remodeling contractor - Oregon, USA ______________________________________________________________
As a repair specialist, I can give you concrete, down-to-earth, practical advice - solutions to common plaster problems that work! Your basic options are twofold: hire a professional (see PLASTER CONTRACTOR for tips and a free online search service for your area) or do the handiwork yourself. I will explore with you both of these approaches. And we will look at decorating choices you may want to make to dress up those old walls and ceilings once you have corrected the defects.

TESTIMONIAL
Thank the Lord...I have finally found a website that was truely helpful in giving me the information I needed to repair my plaster walls. I live in St. Louis, MO and I am repairing the home I own that has been in my family since my great grandparents came over from Italy in 1892 and built the house themselves. The house has alot of family history in it. I am the 4th generation to live in this house. With all of your great help, I will be able to restore the walls so that many more generations will be able to enjoy this wonderful home. Thanks again, and keep up the great work you are doing.
Debbie. Missouri, USA
