Why We Use Joint Compound For Plaster Repair

The drywall trade has made some nifty materials available for your use. Various types of joint compound, when used with their limitations in mind, make wonderful patching and texturing mediums.

You just have to know how to use them correctly. Used in the wrong way, they may not solve problems but may create new ones instead.

Of course. But plasters are trickier to use than joint compounds. They really are the province of the skilled plaster tradesman. That said, plaster has some advantages over drywall finishing materials. The main one, in my opinion, is that it makes a harder surface and so is more resistent to dents. But I will show you some ways of compensating for the softer nature of joint mud.

The methods I developed for repairing and renovating plaster came about as a result of my training and experience as a drywall finisher. They work so well that I continue to use them to this day. With these methods, you will learn how to create repaired and beautified surfaces on your old plaster that will make you proud.
