You Can Make Money In The Plaster Repair Business

Start Your Own Small Business and Be Your Own Boss

To make money in plaster repair, you need two things: reasonable competence, and motivation.

It just makes sense, doesn't it, that before you go starting your own business, you need first of all to know what you are doing.

Your job, when you decide to be your own boss, is to satisfy your customers, and that means you must be able to do decent work if you expect to earn money.

But, of course that isn't enough by itself. To be your own boss means you have to obey the boss - YOURSELF. Can you give direction to your solitary employee (you) and know he will do as you indicate?

I know several very competent guys out there in the building trades. They really know their stuff, and I don't hesitate one second to have them work in my house for me.

But they will never be able to work for themselves and start a business of their own.

Why not? They lack motivation. They're not self-starters. They are content to go to work for their boss. He provides the daily structure of their working day. They don't have to find clients of their own.

They make money with that paycheck every week, or every other week. They go to work at a set time, and after eight hours - sometimes more - they are done. They can go home and forget about work until the next day. It's somewhat simple, cut and dried. (Well, mostly.) You get the picture.

Motivation means you are driven by your own passion and energy. You are pro-active. You can look ahead and form reasonable plans. You are flexible and can learn from your mistakes.

Over time, you will get better and better not only at the work, plaster repair or whatever, but you improve as well in your communication skills with customers and suppliers. Ultimately, you hold the keys to success in your own hands.

You truly are the boss of your own small business even as you leave behind a trail of contented customers. You will make money because you are known as a trustworthy and skilled tradesman.

Sometimes it is only after you start your business that you realize you really can do it. You step out and try it on for size. At some point, you decide either you like it, or you don't.

You can keep your old job and start your business on a part-time basis. Your risk is reduced and you can give yourself time to grow in skill and knowledge even as you begin to make money. How I got started.

How To Begin

Here are some good ideas on how to make money with your own plaster repair business. These can get you going.

First, sign up for my

free 10-day plaster repair email course.

Second, really read - study even - the information on this website. Yes, there are lots of words there. Take your time. Apply the information to your own house where you can. Take on little projects for your relatives and friends. You are gaining experience against the day when you start your business for real. To make money now is not your goal. You want competence first.

One easy way to get off the ground: learn SKIMCOATING.

Old roughly textured plaster or drywall presents a problem to people who would like to put up wallpaper. And self-employed paperhangers themselves often hate having to skim coat a wall themselves. They would rather hire someone to come in, smooth out that wall and put on a sealer so all they have to do is what they like to do - hanging wallpaper.

After you have done some skimcoating work and think you can do a reasonably good job, contact paperhangers and offer your services. You may be surprised how many will jump at the chance to off-load that task to someone else.

Another area where tradespeople can use your help: plumbers and electricians. One thing all these guys do is - make holes! And they leave the holes for the homeowner to deal with. I make money - very good money - cleaning up the messes in plaster and drywall surfaces after these guys leave. They give my name to the homeowner who in turn contacts me. When you start your business, this is an easy source of new work.

In many states, you will need to be licensed and bonded if you are going to be legal as you work for the public. Yes, it is a hassle, but this has been the way states try to deal with home repair scammers, who make their money deceiving the innocent public. You want to be totally legit, so I would highly recommend you get squared away when you start your business. You want to be around for awhile.

As your small business grows, you can explore ways to advertise. But if you do good work and people can trust you to do what you say (being on time for appointments is a big one!), you will find that word of mouth will generate a lot - maybe most - of your business. That has been my experience over 35+ years.

It certainly is a thrill to start your business and make money as your own boss. However, it's not a cakewalk. But if you have enjoyed repairing your own plaster, you might find the motivation to explore a little sideline business that has the capacity to grow into something more. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

SIDE NOTE: When I got married years ago, the priest who married us offered the sage comment to everyone that I would be coming home every night to my new wife, plastered, but she wouldn't mind. And that was exactly true! Because ... I made money.

If earning money online is more attractive to you than fixing plaster for money (or you just want to put your computer to work generating cash for you), here's a great program I recently discovered.

You've probably heard of CLICKBANK. This is a huge marketplace of digital products on just about every conceivable topic, including home improvement. The products attract lots of customer attention and generate millions every year.

The best way to earn money with these products (you don't have to buy them yourself) is simple: just refer people to them and you make nice commissions, often 50 to 75%.

The best vehicle to do that is something called CBMall. They offer a terrific free email course called "15 Powerful Ways CBMall Makes You Money".

Check it out. No obligation on your part. It's Easy To Make Money With CBMall!
