DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE NOT "ARTISTIC". BECAUSE I WON'T BELIEVE YOU!

Here's why ...

The Amazing Thing My Customers Have Taught Me About Wall Texturing Techniques

(even though I AM the pro)

Hello.

Edwin Brown here. I've got a little story to tell. Won't take long, I promise.

She said to me, "Heck, I think I could do that, with a little instruction."

And I said. "You know, you're probably right!"

Customers are funny creatures sometimes. They hire me to repair and beautify their old plaster interiors with the wall texturing techniques I have developed over the years. They know what I charge. It's a lot. Then they watch me - maybe to see if they are going to get their money's worth.

After a while, she starts thinking. 'I'm paying this guy plenty, but this texturing stuff - it doesn't look so hard. I bet I could learn to do this.'

Maybe I can see it on their faces before they even pop the comment. Curiosity. A little half smile. And when the comment comes, I am ready for them.

I agree.

And not just to be agreeable. In fact, people have hired me to give them quick lessons. And what I have discovered over the years is ... motivated people can do it.

And it doesn't take years of practice or instruction either.

Now it is true some have more knack for wall and ceiling texturing than others. Or so it would seem. But I have seen customers do a great job the first time they try.

Women in particular (no offense intended, guys) seem intrigued with the idea of "playing with the mud" and making something unique and beautiful.

They impress me with what they can achieve once they set their minds to it.

You want to know a little secret?

Often they appear to me to have more natural, innate talent than I do.

There. I said it.

Let me show you what I mean.

How I Was Trained

When I was in training for drywall finishing, my old boss always amazed me with the offhand, almost nonchalant way he could throw an absolutely gorgeous texture on a wall or ceiling. He made it look almost effortless.

Yes, he had a lot of talent. But he did something really important for me. He showed me that even I, not known for any particular artistic ability, could do what he was doing.

And he was proven right. His example and instruction gave me the confidence and knowledge to apply the lovely textures that had our clients "ooing and aahing".

Of course, at the same time, he wasn't stupid. He didn't put me to work right away in the living room or master bedroom. No, first I majored in closets and garages. When I passed the test there, then I graduated to the main rooms of the house.

Have you ever looked at the walls or ceilings of a friend's house and wondered: how in the world did they do that?

It's really NOT all that hard. more about how to texture

Would you like to try your hand?

Think of it like the time you were in grade school. Remember finger painting?

You were given a big sheet of blank paper and access to gobs of lovely cool goop. You smeared it on the paper with your hands. You played with it, experimenting with different strokes, positions of the hand, fingers.

Wasn't that fun?

That is very much what texturing is like. You have a tool and some cool mud to experiment with. Now see what you can do with it.

Play around. Don't worry about "perfection". Take your time. You can always scrape off your "mistakes" and start over.

When you get something you like, then ask yourself: can I do this in a consistent manner over the whole wall/ceiling?

So, first you practice on a scrap of drywall, cardboard, or painted plywood. When you are satisfied with something there, you can graduate to the real thing.

--------------TESTIMONIAL---------------

I have been a remodeling contractor in the Corvallis area since 1978. I have used Ed Brown's services for patching and matching drywall and plaster since 1984.

Ed is an expert in this area and sees his part of the project through until it is ready to be painted.

When he is finished and after it is painted, you cannot tell where the old walls stop and the new walls begin.

Ed's talent has made my jobs easier, made the projects go more smoothly and most importantly -satisfies the customer.

Another nice thing is I don't have to worry about cutting an open in a wall to modify plumbing or electrical because I know Ed will come in after me and finish the area beautifully.

Want to try this texturing stuff?

As much as I would like to show up at your doorstep and give you a lesson in person, I can't.

But ... I can come awfully close through the miracle of modern technology.

With my DVD, HOW TO MAKE YOUR OLD PLASTER WALLS AND CEILINGS GORGEOUS, I can enter your home and give you those personal lessons you need to create beautiful texture effects.

You have spent time and effort repairing or smoothing those old plaster surfaces. Now it's time to add the finishing touch with textures that your family and friends will marvel at.

I will show you how to do just what I do (what I get paid very well to do).

Here's what you'll learn

-- find what tools can be used to apply texture. You may be amazed at how simple and easily available they are ... and inexpensive too.

-- know what materials work best. These are materials you can find at home improvement centers, and some lumberyard and masonry supply outlets.

-- mix your texturing material and know when it is right. Plus the easiest and least expensive mixing tool to use.

And then comes the most exciting part: DEMONSTRATIONS

I take you by the hand, so to speak, and show you exactly how to do texturing.

Tool in hand, I apply texture as you watch, explaining what I am doing and why.

You may be astonished at how easy it is. My experience shows, of course, but you will be impressed by how truly SIMPLE some of these textures are.

These are real textures I do for my clients. The simple textures are often the most popular. I enjoy the feedback I get from my satisfied customers.

You can experience the same thrill with your own work. Why not?

Other textures I demonstrate are a little more complicated, but not beyond the reach of beginners. These have their admirers also.

One neat thing about the textures I show you is that you don't have to copy them exactly if you don't want to. They are subject to subtle variations of all kinds.

In fact, as you practice some of these textures, you may find that your own unique twist on what I am doing is more to your taste. Hey, that's your right!

The way I see it, my lessons are designed to get you excited and motivated to unleash your own creativity. Use my examples as a springboard for your own designs, if you want. Above all, have fun.

Give yourself plenty of time, too. Practice. You will soon acquire an ease with the tools and materials that may surprise you.

This first run of HOW TO MAKE YOUR OLD PLASTER WALLS AND CEILING GORGEOUS is a small one to begin with. I am offering a low introductory price because I'm testing the waters. Watch this DVD carefully. You will probably want to see it several times, as I have packed in a lot of information. Just as a reminder, you will learn about:

* tools. You have many choices.

* what materials are available, and the best ones to use.

* mixing your texture materials. Plus, the simpliest and most economical tool to use.

* texture applications. Live demonstrations as I show you, tool in hand, how to actually do a variety of textures, ranging from simple to those a little more complicated.

As you watch, you will also see photos of wall and ceiling textures after they have been painted. So you get the finished look as well.

Watch the instructions carefully. Get your tools and materials, and whip up a batch of texture. Practice awhile. See how you like it. Give yourself some time and patience.

And then, at last ... when all is said and done - you will be able to say, with a knowing smile, "Heck, I see I can do that too, now that I have had some instruction."
